Gaming Hell

It's been a while, but here's a new article all about Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club on Switch. I really enjoyed the two remakes from 2021 of the series, and I've got a bit of a taste for tihs kind of game, so I'm glad another one showed up! Is it as good as the previous ones? Is it a little more player-friendly? Maybe you'll find out. This was a pretty tough one to write as it is a bit out of my wheelhouse, but this kind of thing every once in a while is fine, right?

Speaking of, Gaming Hell will continue to be on less-frequent updates (yes, a site that only updated once a month can have less-frequent updates, it is possible) for a while, but please be patient with me. Gaming Hell will return to full strength in the future!!

Gaming Hell is 15 years old this year! Wow! So, to mark the occasion, I wanted to cover a game that's close to my heart that also happens to be one I don't feel gets a fair assessment these days. So, here's roughly 10000 words about Earthbound Beginnings. This is the very first JRPG covered on my site, not a genre I can claim to be anything even remotely resembling an expert on but this game is one I have a big soft spot for, one that feels a little misunderstood by the rest of the internet at large, so I wanted to do my best to do it justice. It seems I've managed that, judging from some of the responses so far, so thank you if you've read it!

It's a little late, but let's start the year with... A NES game? By Nintendo?! Sure, why not, it's Urban Champion, no-one's favourite black-box Nintendo game. This is a little shorter than my usual stuff but, well, this game is pretty basic. I have a soft spot for it though, and hopefully I've made a decent enough case for the game being not the worst game Nintendo ever made or whatever people on the internet say.

Honestly, I think the most shocking thing I found when researching this was that 3D Classics: Urban Champion makes balance changes to the versus mode! Can someone hack these alterations into the original game so we can finally have some tournament-legal Urban Champion action?!
