@moonflowers asked:

what's your fav game ever

i feel like to really answer this i have to do it in the 'lifetime achievement' sense because otherwise there's a list of five i might say depending on which one i'd thought about most recently, which isn't very satisfying at all.*

anyway the lifetime achievement favourite game title goes to dragon age: origins. this isn't as in game i've played the most (it probably is the game i've played the most); people play 10k hours of league of legends and then are like 'this sucks'. what i'm trying to gesture at is that its the game that i've loved, that has been important to me in such a significant way, for so long, that it really can't be anything else.

pound for pound there are other games i could boot up and enjoy as much. probably more in some cases, because i've played origins so many times now its a bit like trying to squeeze blood from a stone. i've seriously considered speedrunning it, just to find a new angle on it.

there are games that i played when i was younger that i still really love. wind waker and halo 3 are what i'm thinking of specifically, but they don't quite feel comperable. wind waker was a game i came around on as 'best zelda' when i replayed it as an adult when the hd version came out and its something i go back to every 5+ years, or similar. similar deal with various halos; those are games i can go years at a time without touching. comparatively, dragon age: origins is like the 3rd thing i install on a new computer, after a web browser and steam - not having it there and playable feels wrong.

for the purpose of this post i am going to do the intense mathematical calculation of how many times i've actually played it. i remember distinctly 6 times on xbox 360. then there's a 30gb folder with 73 folders in it that i need to sort through to say how many full playthroughs i've done. there's 20 playthroughs in there. that's 26 total. what the fuck.

anyway, i just got done replaying it and managed to configure reshade in such a way that it didn't look like shit, which i was pretty happy about.

*pillars of eternity ii: deadfire, ffxiv: shadowbringers, wind waker, one of the halos. probably others i'm not thinking of!
