I pick things up
I am a collector
And things, well things
They tend to accumulate
I have this net
It drags behind me
It picks up hobbies
For me to feed upon

I haven't seen them since they first came out looks at watch 20 years ago and all I remember is it had good music and it was very melodramatic as it fumbled to engage with many Gundam themes but not well, and most importantly, Nicol, who liked to play piano.

BUT THIS IS THE REAL REASON YOU WATCH GUNDAM SEED

one female and two male pilots standing in front of their Dom Trooper mechs, with a superior four way ocular range, formidable armor and large boosters on their legs for mobility

THE DOM IS THE COOLEST NON-GUNDAM MECH IN THE FRANCHISE (tying with the Aries)

Ah! Okay, so both shows date from the time when TV anime was coloured and 'shot' digitally, but at resolutions significantly below HD. Most shows from this era just get upscaled for HD release, but they put significantly more effort in with SEED and Destiny, and gave the results their own broadcasts as a semi-new thing. Specifically, they:

  • tilt-and-scanned the whole thing down to 16:9 from 4:3 (in my view, this wreaked a fair degree of havoc on one of CE Gundam's few visual strengths, its intermittently dynamic storyboarding)
  • did some processing that raised the previously muted colours
  • did some new animation (not tonnes) and also spliced in some of the animation that was done specifically for the compilation films

The changes are not by-and-large radical, though a few scenes become slightly hornier or gorier.
