My last couple sessions weren't great and I didn't even write up a few because 1) had to play relatively late and 2) I was wallowing in the quicksand hell of games where I didn't even get to play. Any player knows what this is like.
Well, I am redeemed. 1-1-1-3 is about as good a league performance as I can ask for in one night. I was in the hole so far that I did not think a recovery was even going to be possible, but this session went so well that I'm actually only 20 points from escaping the demotion zone. I might even make it into the positives if I keep doing well!
Second shot represents my first and second games. I just got dealt totally ridiculous hands and I won about half of them. Every so often things line up luck-wise, and if you're able to put it all together you get explosive results. This pictured hand, I chose to wait on hatsu (green dragon) and picked it up immediately. But I actually made a mistake when I threw 8p out of this shape earlier in the hand: I could have had a much better wait (369p in best case) if I had held on to it. Anyway, it worked out, it was my biggest hand of the night.
Third shot is from the craziest deal I got. The finish is a little more modest than that insane deal suggests, but ultimately I threw out the west winds for a better shape. A big reason you need to understand score is that you can make these decisions. This hand is double south and dora 2, which is mangan, which is Enough.
At the end of game three, second place nearly made a comeback over three hard-earned dealer repeats. I'm really sweating at this point, and player to my left keeps getting fast hands that she naturally pushes because she's at second place and wants to keep it. And for my part, hell, I want to deal into her for something cheap because that will end dealer's run and keep him from overtaking me. Luckily, I was able to make just that happen and stay on top. Sometimes a deal-in is as good as a victory.
Final game where I wound up third, it was everybody else's turn to go off. I found myself narrowly escaping last place with a cheap hand.
