In no particular order or ranking. Certainly I left things out but my criteria was for games I consider all-timers or which had great personal impact on me.
I value either highly focused and detailed games, or very unusual and unique games. The direct opposite of my taste is probably something like the modern Bethesda RPG; very large and lifeless and number-oriented and lacking any tactile feeling. I think that comes through in this list.
In the case of Virtua, VF4 Final is probably an entire chapter of my life, but I prefer 5FS so that’s the one I went with. For GG, even though I would probably play Xrd over #reload, #r was the version I put the hours into. I still like it better than AC+R, which I have always found rather bloated.
Outrun was almost Outrun 2. I might have forgotten IIDX 8, now that I think of it.
