Had a very strong final session, 1st-3rd-2nd-1st in four games. Put me in the +200 club and probably 5th place in the division, maybe 6th once all games are finished.
I was worried about this table because I caught a pretty nasty cold on Monday night and these games were already scheduled for Tues/Wed. We were already cutting it close to the holidays and I don't think I'll be much better in a couple days, so I played the games as scheduled. Thankfully my disease-slowed brain hung in there and I had a great performance despite a couple of mental slips in there.
This was one of the sets where you just play strong and stable and stick to your game and the tiles come to you, a blessed relief from my recent ladder luck. In particular my runaway success in the last game was a direct result of overly aggressive players dealing in when they really did not need to.
Anyway! Between this organized online league ARML and my regular in-person meets I have really had my interest in playing mahjong re-kindled. It's like a FGC where I don't have to get home at four in the morning. When it comes to competition, community is always best.
