"Controlled chaos" sums it up, I guess? A combo game that combines the trendy one-button control schemes of a lot of modern games with the free-flowing chain combos of the average anime fighter. Very easy operation with very overpowered characters who will kill each other in two hits. Easy to pick up, easy to die.
It feels really good to chain special moves together-- like in the original DNF, if you played Korean MMOs in the mid-00s-- and the MP system allows every character to technically combo forever but also limits the situations in which they can actually do so. "Overheat" state temporarily limits your damage but doesn't really limit your offense: you can just keep mixing them up till you have MP to kill them again.
I'm playing Striker, who has to get into relatively close range (a fistfighter in a game full of swords and magic), but once she's in there, she can attack forever. Game philosophy is "it's not broken if they're ALL that strong"; dev recently touted a balance patch featuring "only buffs".
Swift Master appears to be playing a completely different game from everybody else.
Overall very happy I grabbed it on sale, will never be my main game but a ton of fun.
