It's amusing to go back to the very first trailer for Akiba Maid War. The publicity plays coy about the fact that the show was about yakuza maids until the first episode's shocking reveal. This trailer only implies "girls behaving badly" comedy, and that's all I suspected when I started the show.
The promotion purposely misdirects by introducing only the side characters Yumechi and Shiipon, both of whom are very standard maid "types". It tells us they're dirtbags up front, but it hides the extent of that. Something is up, but still a big surprise when it turns out to be organized crime. From hindsight we can identify that all the mosaic'd scenes (with "for adults" on that sign) are gang warfare scenes.
There are clues to suss it out, though: the kanji 冥道 (meidou, maid) means "underworld". And of course, Ranko is visibly carrying a gun in the pretty dramatic-looking key art.
The tagline is "An Anime About Maids At Work". Which, yes, was true.
