I have been playing muck. It's a free on steam. It's like if Minecraft was really impossible and only lasted for one round of gaming. You can't save your world and have to either finish it in one sitting or forfeit it. The goal is to fix up a boat and escape an island and at night progressively more difficult enemies spawn to kill you and tear up all your stuff.

the first game that comes to mind is Rogue Galaxy for the PS2. it is an action RPG
