Half of me is well aware that "genres" in music are close to obsolete but the other half is sooooo happy to find clusters of Songs That Sound Like That

I would have like, 4 or 5 nickels

uploaded directly to cohost because ALL instances of this song are for some reason blocked from streaming. Youtube couldn't help me on this day

Listening to "New Blue Sun" this morning. Extremely peaceful and obviously very nice. It's very much An Ambient Album.

Disjointed thoughts:

• The well-meaning-art-nerd in me says that the fact that this record even exists is wonderful, and it's great that Andre has made music again. In a sense, this is exactly the solo album I wanted, and I think I'd be saying that even if this weren't already a genre niche I enjoyed.

• The Nu-Jazz-Nerd/Ambient Liker in me is saying that this album feels a bit underdeveloped and slightly overproduced. The meandering feeling is definitely used well here, but I wish there was more emphasis put on Andre's (very good!) flute playing--not to say that Carlos Niño and Friends aren't doing a stellar job in the background. A more concise follow-up record would be amazing, but it'd be okay if that doesn't happen. More of this would be great, too. Whatever Andre wants, really
