What N64 emulator is recommended these days? I hear a lot of people give a lot of grief to Project 64 but that's basically the only one I've ever known or used for that matter - and even that was years ago

I used to use Mupen64 in RetroArch a lot because it seemed a lot more accurate than Project 64. When all the nasty stuff came out about RetroArch's lead developers, I tried to find a standalone N64 emulator. Landed on something called m64p, a fork of Mupen64 focused on even HIGHER accuracy. Recently it's been renamed to "Simple 64." Unfortunately the last few updates have both made it more accurate and a lot slower on my old CPU, so I've had to go back to Mupen64 in RetroArch to get playable framerates again.
I see! Thank you, I'll definitely be giving m64p a looksee soon, probably after some upgrades and repairs I've been planning
I'd personally recommend the n64 core in ares, it's pretty accurate and shouldn't require too strong a system to run but tbh I'm not sure
Parallel is another pretty solid option, it runs off of RetroArch libraries so it has some pretty good emulation customizing on a fresh install. Project64 is okay in a pinch, but the "please donate to us 🥺" nagware can be pretty annoying - there are a couple forks that get rid of it
Ah yeah I can definitely see that getting super obnoxious, I'll be looking into this one too, thank you!
