they delisted the 360 version of sonic generations recently and they’re probably gonna delist the steam version soon, too, in favor of the remaster to go with shadow generations. this is gonna be like d-day for the generations modding scene of like 13 years (edit: might not be as bad as i thought: see comments). anyone who cares about digital ownership, get it while you can.

pirates,
do as you must.

the modders live to fight another day. this isn’t exactly ideal but i’ll be honest it’s far beyond what i expected of them (which is to say, literally nothing lmao) and it could’ve been way worse

It's at least not a worst case scenario where it gets bombed entirely, but part of me wonders if mods are going to be compatible with X Shadow (probably not lol) or if getting into the near decade and a half of mods and community work is just going to require all the weird sidesteps

oh right, it was definitely concurrent w that. mostly what i know is you can’t digitally buy the 360 version on modern backwards-compatible xboxes anymore, i’m not sure if that’s directly connected to it? but it wouldn’t be surprising

the main reason i’m worried is there is still precedent for sega trying to pull some shit with the steam version because they delisted the sega classics collection versions of sonic 1-3, and the christian whitehead version of CD, for the game that i hear is objectively worse in pretty much every way, Sonic Origins

also: i’m not actually sure if the modding thing will be as bad as i thought it would? i’ve heard people say that the gens remaster will still be on hedgehog engine 1 so it won’t be that hard to port mods, but i can’t find any source for that so take it with a healthy grain of salt

yeah there's good (terrible awful greed-fueled) reason to explain why sega would delist the original version(s) but its also possible they're gonna allow it to remain up on steam (or they might leave the original game listing up but remove the ability to actually buy it and put in a link to the remaster listing, ive seen other companies pull that)
