[ok I know this is like a joke post but I like almost entirely agree but I do feel like there is at least a bit of piracy culture that comes from a perspective of wanting everything for free regardless of the context of who made it and how they are making it available [and whether ur capable of supporting them for it / whether it's good to support them] - see dumps of patreon art or rips of low priced pay what you want itch games for example.

I think piracy is like the weapon we have to fight back against corporations that refuse to consider opportunities to make the tools/media/etc. they produce available equitably - and to fight back against the trend of corporations normalizing not being able to own anything anymore even if you pay for it - so all of that kind of piracy (which is, like, probably most of it) is the kind I support]

there's a thousand tiny indies games out there that aren't pulling the sales numbers the likes of dead cells, undertale and co, and you picked celeste of all things as your example? Regardless, I am fundamentally and ethically opposed to the concept of digital scarcity, so yes, a digital file that can be copied and pasted and shared for no or near negligible cost should be.
Intellectual property is a scam invented by capitalism to sell more capitalism, and artists, just like everyone else, should be given the right to not starve regardless of whether their art "sells well" or not, and I don't like when the blame for this situation is put on people not going through the motions of buying something, instead of agreeing it's the damn system that's evil.

...I picked Celeste because it's a game made by an indie company started and partially led by a trans woman that I want to support? There's no need to get hostile because I picked the "wrong" indie game to use as an example for why independent developers deserve to get paid for their work

In a perfect world, no, a game's success shouldn't be determined by numbers and how well it sells. But since that isn't the case, the next best thing would be to support indie games and companies so those games can succeed
