current obsession:
future's uncertainty

Today's surprise:
the official russian standard for accessible software design
Russian National Standard GOST-R 52872-2019 "Internet resources and other digital content. Software applications and user interfaces. Accessibility requirements for persons with disabilities and other special needs", section A
(the fact that this document exists in the first place is a surprise on its own, tbh), in the section describing the HTML `autocomplete` attribute, mentions two examples of possible values for role='sex': Female, and... Fa'afafine.
...
- месяц (bday-month)- компонент "месяц" в поле "дата рождения";
- год (bday-year) - компонент "год" в поле "дата рождения";
- пол (sex) - пол (например, женский, фаафафине);
- web-страница (url) - домашняя страница или другая web-страница
...

Apparently, that's because this section is just an abridged and translated copy-paste of HTML standard section §4.10.18.7...

...which sort of removes the mystique of why does a russian official National Standard so nonchalantly mention a non-binary gender identity...
*
Theres still a kinda less interesting question of "Why does an official HTML standard mandate that a field for a gender identity should be called 'Sex'?"
**
And also "Why is everyone always so interested in inquiring and recording other people's genders, even when it honestly makes no sense at all?"

But still - even if unintentionally, Rosstandart says Trans Rights!!!!
