I've actually been looking to get into her work ever since reading a couple of her short stories back in college and was thinking of starting with this one. Is this a decent jumping-in point?
I’m not a great expert on her writing, but it’s an enjoyable novel so far. I got into her through the Earthsea books, which are fantasy as opposed to sci-fi, but the first two are two of my favourite books ever so I’d recommend those on their own merit. My favourite of her sci-fi books is Always Coming Home, which is a kind of experimental novel which feels like a collection of stories but is all about the same place.
AY YO AY YO AY YO this book broke my brain, might be my #1 favorite book of all time, enjoy :)
That’s awesome! I’m looking forward to reading more. Any other LeGuin recommendations?
Short story wise: I love Nine Lives (which feels like an episode of star trek), The Name of the Rose (a political near-future sci-fi), Betrayals (a dramatic critique of the Ekumen). If you liked Earthsea, I liked Tehanu as well!
