Dad-boss time in Deep Labyrinth. Spoilers: he transforms into a massive griffin that was really challenging! I managed to stun lock it with fire sword attacks but then died immediately in the next zone before saving. Took me a couple of tries to defeat Dad-griffin after that.

The movement controls in this game are absolutely miserable, but it continues to shine in the charm department with some really interesting enemy designs. I think I need to put more time into experimenting with magic spells (you can combine them to create new effects) because my sword attacks are getting less and less effective.

Save data says 2hrs 45mins; feels more like 10hrs at this point! It’s been a while since I played a game which chugged along quite so slowly as this one haha

I have been excited to play DL for a long time as I'd seen some (frankly insane looking) screen shots and the promotional art felt very weird and out of place - both in time and in relation to what I'd seen of the in-game art. And as a fan of the DS' hardware gimmicks (DS of course standing for Dumb Shit), I was also excited to read that contemporaneous reviews of the game had blasted it for including lots of touch controls and gimmicks such as blowing into the mic. The game lives up to my expectations in both regards. It is not a good game so far. But between the handcramps and the stilted gameplay, I'm having a lot of fun :)

Tbh I'm mostly taken in by the story and setting so far. This is a surprise to me as I wasn’t expecting much in the way of story, and the set up has all the hallmarks of a bargain basement cartoon. When a family’s car breaks down, the parents go into a mysterious house leaving their son in the car. He follows them in only to be transported to a bizarre realm. Immediately upon arriving the boy learns from a Vishnu-looking god that he has entered a realm where memories are sorted; either saved or destroyed. Okay this game is about memory… And -And- the boy learns (a little later) his dad wants to destroy a memory of their time together - what’s going on? It’s certainly an intriguing and different plot. Might talk about gameplay in another post - that’s probably enough about Deep Labyrinth lol

Let me just finish by saying, I feel like I’m 6 hours in, but the save file says 2 - two?!- hours lol
