I wanna keep making cool games that you can beat in like, 6 hours. I wanna make games that you beat in a weekend or even a single sitting and you just go "WHEW" like a really good meal

COULDN'T AGREE MORE I would love some RPGs I can actually play :P
I wish I could make like 1 hour long games and put food on the table with them, but no idea how to get people excited about them. And no idea how to make quality 6 hour long games fast enough to be relevant. Making games is hard. 😅
It really is! And I can't speak at all to what's actually sustainably profitable.
I'd like to think that there's an audience for dense, niche games under 10 hours because like, how many of us have full-time jobs, right? But how to pull that off consistently and actually make money, well... 😖
I'm sure there's demand. There are games that I consider well worth it after finishing them in like 4 to 5 hours. At least to me, it's more about quality than quantity at that point.
Though, well, 5 hours of quality content is already quite a tall order, especially if you're making games solo. 😅
It really is! Bossgame falls somewhere between 3-6 hours for most players, and it took me around 3.5 years to finish (mostly working on it part-time alongside jobs). I definitely want to try different methods to make games faster in the future...
I may pivot to this mindset after Izrand :D Prolly would make it easier to stay motivated too!
I'd love to see what kind of mini-RPGs you could make!! I totally agree though, even if you love the work, it is so so hard to stay focused and motivated for years-long projects.
