another blind (somewhat) fire emblem playthrough under my belt, been wanting to play as ike for so long and overall... i enjoyed it!

some random thoughts (with spoilers) underneath.

so my first experience with the game was through fedule's fe9 let's play. i can't pinpoint exactly when i went through it (perhaps around the time i was into awakening maybe?) but i recall liking ike's personality and the story. admittedly i even used this lp as a bit of guide for some of the maps i struggled with in my playthrough haha.

in terms of the gameplay itself... i will say i felt a little spoilt with the modern instalments cause the animations were soooo slow to my liking. but i suppose i can't fault them too hard considering this is the first fe game with 3d sprites. also shoving units in this game is rather fun (and useful). i can't remember if hard difficulty was available at the start but i went with normal just so i could have a comfortable time, and it mostly was an easy time save for a few maps i had trouble with (particularly the one involving naesala). also i don't know why my ike was so allergic to good level ups haha, somehow other units were getting more strength than him. marcia and jill just to name a few had ridiculous strength.

story wise, it felt refreshing to have a protagonist who isn't a lord like most other fe games. ike is... just a guy who gets thrown into horrors of war (as all fe protags do) but isn't afraid to be blunt in his responses, especially to other royals. none of the characters are perfect, but it's nice to watch them develop over the course of the story e.g. jill, and the whole beorc and laguz relationship in general.

i feel my only gripe is how the final battle went, cause i expected something much more... grand. it seems people enjoyed ashnard for being more unique compared to the other fe antagonists for simply being... insane and imposing as hell. and that's not a bad thing, but i guess he didn't leave as much of an impression on me compared to say, the black knight, who felt much more menacing. also apparently ashnard had another phase (where he touches the medallion and goes nuts) that's not part of normal mode, and i wish i got to see it in my playthrough.

plenty of characters to love in this game, with some of my personal favs being: ike (duh), titania, ranulf, tibarn, reyson, and even the black knight. and also a fan of the character designs for the tellius saga, armour in this game don't look too ridiculous and there's not as much... fan-servicey/ revealing designs for the ladies. as for music, there were some stand outs but overall, it felt just ok? i'm probably only bias towards other soundtracks since i'm more familiar with those games (having played them more than once).

anyway... that was a lot of dumb rambling. i'm not a good writer haha. ike is great. ike-good
