telling someone "you dont have to be their best friend or invite them to your group chat, but you need to get along with people you dont like. your neighbors, your coworkers, people near you but who dont have a lot of shared interests with you - you need to get over your disdain for the ways they interact with the world and try to find common ground and community solidarity with them. that doesnt mean tolerating harm or hate; it just means forming communal bonds with people who fundamentally want the same things as you" and watching the leftism leave their body

Collective action does in fact require having an answer to "you and what army"

it's not even just "let live" cuz a lot of people are content to never ever engage with their neighbors or people around them. capitalism has got them believing that they should have nothing to do with their neighbor unless their neighbor already believes all the same things as them and that's dogshit. a better world requires actively trying creating situations that connect you with people who are not like you. it doesnt take much. a once-yearly bbq in the parking lot of the apartment complex does more political work than making posts ever will. now instead of just being "the weird neighbor with the gay flag" you're the polite bbq guy. community connection is praxis

It does kinda suck cus I always make a point to interact with my neighbors for the reasons being discussed but all of my neighbors I hung out with moved away in the last couple of years and now there’s just empty rental houses and my other neighbors who harass us for being lesbians, just kinda blows that people don’t get to stay put due to shitty landlords and other situations

yeah it's hard!! it requires constantly regrouping and redoubling on efforts cuz there's so many unknowns. the fact that it's hard is what makes it so important though. people being unable to feel fixed in place long enough to get to know and connect with them is one of the ways capitalism interferes with community actions. a connection with ones neighborhood is more important than voting imo

my wife and I were going to have a cookie party at our house after we moved in and invite all the neighbors (including the rentals) but... March 2020 lmao. someday we will do this because I believe so strongly in knowing the neighbors, I always did growing up too and it's so important!
