while we're all complaining about payment companies, I want to take a moment to gripe about how abysmal percentage-based transaction fees are.
it makes me so incredibly mad that every year at desert bus paypal makes tens of thousands of dollars of actual profit off of our wholly volunteer charity event.
even at the charity rate of 1.6% (+ a flat fee, usually like 30c) if we raise a million dollars that's 16,000 dollars into paypal's pocket, and probably over 20,000 once you add in the per-transaction flat fee.
even when I'm trying to do a good thing for compensation I still end up lining some rich person's pockets.
