I'm a Vietnamese cis woman born and currently living in the U.S. You may know me from Sandwich, from Twitter or Mastodon (same username), or on Twitch as Sharkaeopteryx. I do not have a Discord or Bluesky account.

Ask me about language learning/teaching, cooking/eating food, late diagnosis ADHD, and volunteer small business mentoring. Or don't, I'm not the boss of you.

I think people deserve to be young, make mistakes, and grow without being held to standards they don't know about yet and are still learning. So, if you are under 22, please don't try to strike up a friendship or get involved in discussions on my posts.

Please don't automatically assume I follow/know/co-sign someone just because I reposted something from them—sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Also, if you think being removed as a follower when we're not mutuals is a cardinal sin, please do not follow me.

As some of you may already know, trans rights in Japan are terrible. There's draconian laws on the books that to change one's gender marker, one has to not be married, have had children, and elected for gender reassignment surgery—which frankly, isn't for everyone. Recently a Japanese court has ruled that this law is unconstitutional for family registries, but the specifics of the law is still under debate in other cases.

Marching spreads visibility. It connects our community. If you can make it, please come and march for our rights.

  • November 19th (Sun) from 11:00~16:00 in Shinjuku Chuo Park (新宿中央公園水の広場)
  • March starts at 14:00

Details here

If you can't make it, consider donating

Transgender Japan is running a crowdfunding campaign right now. It's only 50% funded. Please, please consider donating so the march can continue.

And now some good news...

Crowdfunding for the Japanese translation of "Gender Queer: A Memoir" met its goal!

I've read the English version for this and desperately wanted a Japanese version, because I think so many of my Japanese nonbinary, queer and questioning friends could relate to the author's account of eir journey through questioning, realization, and finally accepting emselves and finding the words that empower em.

If you want to back it and get a Japanese version of the book, it's here.
