I finally got trick-or-treaters for the first time in 3 years, and I'm pretty sure they were pity trick or treaters bc I think someone from the kids' party our upstairs neighbors were throwing saw my door sign begging people to ring the doorbell, and I'm pretty sure we won't get any next year because #1: I…was probably a lot more "Halloween spirit"-looking (both in terms of getting way too into the spirit of the thing and in terms of that's exactly what I looked like) than they were expecting from a Responsible Adult, and #2: I was pretty sure we wouldn't get trick-or-treaters at ALL so I randomly bought a bunch of stuff I knew we would eat instead of, y'know, kid candy.
So now the kids think I'm weird because they all got blueberry muffin packs and mini Cow Tales and some dark chocolate Lindt truffles, and the adults think I'm weird because I answered the door in an unsettling mix of "goth fairy" and "Halloween troll".
To be clear!! While I do not want to make neighbor relations harder, it's not like I didn't choose to do what I did—when I went to the supermarket I was in a "lowkey Velma" costume and changed out of it specifically to be Extra. So while I don't feel bad about that choice, I am hoping this won't make them act weird towards me; I know y'all are going to be "well if they don't like it that's THEIR problem" and I appreciate the sentiment but we live in a society and specifically in an apartment complex and I like it here and don't want there to be any reason to feel otherwise.
Maybe tomorrow's entry will have more punctuation? We can only hope!!
