I'm a Vietnamese cis woman born and currently living in the U.S. You may know me from Sandwich, from Twitter or Mastodon (same username), or on Twitch as Sharkaeopteryx. I do not have a Discord or Bluesky account.

Ask me about language learning/teaching, cooking/eating food, late diagnosis ADHD, and volunteer small business mentoring. Or don't, I'm not the boss of you.

I think people deserve to be young, make mistakes, and grow without being held to standards they don't know about yet and are still learning. So, if you are under 22, please don't try to strike up a friendship or get involved in discussions on my posts.

Microblogvember #4: roleplaying games

  • one time when I was in high school (note: over 20 years ago) my friends and I "developed" our own ttrpg character sheet system (we never got further in creating the system than making the charsheet template, which was in list format). One of the character stats was "Moxie." Another stat was "Sexual Repression." (edited to add that to my knowledge the like 3 people involved, including me, are all cis women. We were just horny teenage weirdos and also "moxie" is a funny word.)

  • Unpopular opinion: I prefer text-based real-time games over in-person games. It's how I started and what I'm used to and as an ADHDer, I love how much easier it makes a ton of things (research, math, die-rolling, logging, side convos with or without GM, character development) while making a lot of other things (time bleed, tracking combat, taking notes, uncomfortable chairs, getting bored/losing track, feeling unheard, some other RSD triggers) not an issue or much less of an issue. I know it's not for everybody. But it's definitely for me!

  • the worst thing about playing an aarakocra that is based on an arapapá instead of a kookaburra is that I can't name her "Birburra" and keep the double pun
