The funny part is that I was mulling over how to phrase what I want to say for this one, when the upstairs neighbors started playing their music 😂
See, the thing is, I'm starting to think maybe the upstairs neighbors aren't as loud as they seem in comparison to the former upstairs neighbors (both share similar demographic characteristics before anyone starts). The former upstairs neighbors we never heard a peep from (though we did hear a bowling ball falling sound from them a couple times. A year.).
But when they moved out, well, the management here will come up with almost any reason to declare each unit's carpet a loss and charge you to replace it on move-out (and I know FOR SURE the carpet was replaced because I had to hear EVERY MINUTE of it 😭😭😭). And I don't know if I'm completely off base here or not, but I'm wondering if the new carpeting/flooring layer just doesn't have the same soundproofing qualities the old one had.
It could also just be because they have at least 2 young kids, and kids are gonna kid. And while I'm glad to hear the sounds of kids running and playing as opposed to kids not having fun, my mental constitution is a fair bit more delicate than it used to be, and trying to force some executive to function at least a little is really hard when I'm also trying to tune out thumps, giggles, and squeals (yes, I hear it through headphones too).
Still, it's not even the kid noises that bother me so much as sometimes when they play music, it sounds too loud, definitely for me and even/especially for small kids. The reason I said that is because the music is super loud down here BUT if you're outside in the breezeway you can't hear it, which boggles my mind. The worst part is that it's music in a genre I like, but the quirks of architecture mean I hear the bass and some mumbling and nothing is clear. So I can't even enjoy it vicariously through them. 😭
Anyway, they seem like nice enough people, and they are always hosting parties and get-togethers for the kid(s?), which while they're not great for my head are good for the kids (other than nobody masks, but we are probably the only ones that mask here anyway). If they ever bring it up I'll probably at least ask them to turn down the music a notch or two for my sake, but I know kids don't come with a volume switch and the last thing I'd want to do is be a Karen about it.
