The PURPLE KEY turns easily in the lock. You open the secret door and follow the staircase down to an underground stone-walled lair. Above you, the door slams shut. There is no way but forward. It's dark in here but your CANDLE lights the way. The claustrophobic walls, dripping with algae and slime, hug you tightly. You've never felt so alone.
Your PARENT/LEGAL GUARDIAN made sure that you were always well cared for, and even at the orphanage, you had the company of other children to keep you from feeling alone and afraid. But here, on your Questeenth birthday, you have followed your heart, followed your quest, and it has led you here, some decaying old prison on the edges of civilization. It's a miserable place to end up.
The tunnel drags on and on. You think about going back, but you have no other direction to go. Reluctantly you trudge forward, hoping with each step that you will find whatever quest logic brought you here.
You begin to hear the rumblings of SOMETHING up ahead, perhaps some great beast. The walls slowly part, and the floor in front of you opens up into a broad pit. The noises here and louder still. You cast your candlelight over the edge, and that's when you see it.
