I'm a Vietnamese cis woman born and currently living in the U.S. You may know me from Sandwich, from Twitter or Mastodon (same username), or on Twitch as Sharkaeopteryx. I do not have a Discord or Bluesky account.

Ask me about language learning/teaching, cooking/eating food, late diagnosis ADHD, and volunteer small business mentoring. Or don't, I'm not the boss of you.

I think people deserve to be young, make mistakes, and grow without being held to standards they don't know about yet and are still learning. So, if you are under 22, please don't try to strike up a friendship or get involved in discussions on my posts.

Please don't automatically assume I follow/know/co-sign someone just because I reposted something from them—sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Also, if you think being removed as a follower when we're not mutuals is a cardinal sin, please do not follow me.

Something I really hate when talking with people but specifically older generations, is the absolute inability to consider new information.

I was talking about a video essay I'd watched recently and the common misconceptions around that subject and how the essay looked into new evidence to delve into the topic. And someone responded to me talking about it with "Well that's not what I heard." And I was so frustrated. Like, I'm her giving you new information. You are hearing something new. All you are telling me now is you distrust me as a source.

Which you know what? That's fair. Ask for where I got this from. Check my sources, I am wrong lots of the time! You come back to me with, hey so I found this other thing- and I'll be chagrined but I'll be thankful you corrected me.

But it doesn't even go there. It's just well I heard different and then they stop engaging. They don't care enough to educate themselves and would rather stay misinformed because it's easy?
