Don't get me wrong, there are definitely insufferable cohost fans who are super into being toxic to anyone even mildly critical of eggbug.zone. It's just that I see less of them popping out of the woodwork to yell "well at LEAST this isn't TWITTER, that's a NAZI BAR*" to anyone not white who is talking about racism, which happens constantly on the fediverse. And they don't seem to get that the lack of an algorithm which they praise makes this consistent harassment worse than Twitter, in context. Because it means that every time people get harassed, the harassing bigots either searched for the fight on purpose, or are following people who aren't bigots just to harass the people they boost.
*there are also plenty of nazis on the fediverse but they never want to acknowledge this
Like yes, either way it's all in the feed you curate, but while my feed here is smaller than the one on Mastodon, it's statistically similar in terms of demographics. Yet the people on my Fedifeed have to deal with racist harassment of statistically way higher frequency/intensity.
