I'm a Vietnamese cis woman born and currently living in the U.S. You may know me from Sandwich, from Twitter or Mastodon (same username), or on Twitch as Sharkaeopteryx. I do not have a Discord or Bluesky account.

Ask me about language learning/teaching, cooking/eating food, late diagnosis ADHD, and volunteer small business mentoring. Or don't, I'm not the boss of you.

I think people deserve to be young, make mistakes, and grow without being held to standards they don't know about yet and are still learning. So, if you are under 22, please don't try to strike up a friendship or get involved in discussions on my posts.

Please don't automatically assume I follow/know/co-sign someone just because I reposted something from them—sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Also, if you think being removed as a follower when we're not mutuals is a cardinal sin, please do not follow me.

I don't post enough content here about the things I am really into. While typing this I thought, "and I don't know if I'm gonna," but literally midsentence I started getting ideas, so. We'll see. I did microblogvember and that was I think the first time I had ever completed a 30-day challenge like that. The other time it was a "journaling" challenge for a group I was in and it only reinforced how much I hate journaling and the way most people say to do it just Does Not Work For Me.

…did I ever post that thing I wrote about how that type of journaling doesn't work for me, or is it still siting around in drafts? I should check up on that.

Anyway, some ideas I have that might get me to post more of the things I'm into:

Maybe posting a food pic every week or so. #FoodPicFriday maybe?
Create a month challenge for myself to write a recipe a day, maybe in March

  • I like this idea but idk if I should make it a challenge where each day's recipe has a theme, or if I want to leave myself room to do what I want. Proper recipes with measurement and science-class thoroughness on instructions take me a lot more time to write than just typing "slap this and this and that in a pan, cook without burning until done." If it's just for me it doesn't matter, but as an accessibility thing, I know there are steps I take for granted (e.g. breaking up meat when you add it to a pan) that aren't obvious to others. I don't want to dismiss that. But it takes so much energy for me to write everything down exhaustively that if I commit to that, there's no way I can write a recipe a day.

That said, the likelihood of someone coming across a recipe I post on Cohost and actively trying it is pretty low anyway so I'm probably putting the cart before the horse. Maybe I'll just tag them as #RealRecipes and, idk, "#Reci-Mes" and if someone actually wants to try one of the latter they can comment and then I will write it up for real for them since I'll have the motivation.

It's harder to think of something to do with languages, especially since the owl dived headfirst into the shitter. Maybe write a poem in a different language every day for National Poetry Month in April? Maybe write some of the recipes in different languages? Hmm.
