I'm a Vietnamese cis woman born and currently living in the U.S. You may know me from Sandwich, from Twitter or Mastodon (same username), or on Twitch as Sharkaeopteryx. I do not have a Discord or Bluesky account.

Ask me about language learning/teaching, cooking/eating food, late diagnosis ADHD, and volunteer small business mentoring. Or don't, I'm not the boss of you.

I think people deserve to be young, make mistakes, and grow without being held to standards they don't know about yet and are still learning. So, if you are under 22, please don't try to strike up a friendship or get involved in discussions on my posts.

Please don't automatically assume I follow/know/co-sign someone just because I reposted something from them—sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Also, if you think being removed as a follower when we're not mutuals is a cardinal sin, please do not follow me.

Almost every time I catch a Lwaxana ep on DS9 it becomes so clear how much the TNG writers must have despised Majel Barrett because of how terribly they wrote her in that series. No shade to anyone who likes the TNG Lwaxana episodes, if you enjoy them please continue; they are just hard for me to rewatch personally. In DS9 she's still irritating but at least she gets to be a person. Also they make her at least a little less racist*.

That said, bc I don't rewatch the TNG Lwaxana eps, I may be unfairly categorizing them. IIRC the one about her first daughter was…well, better than the others. And maybe the one where she's paired with David Ogden Stiers, although the ableism in that one already makes it super unrewatchable for me personally.

*Granted, this is because there's only one episode of DS9 where she and Worf overlap, but even in that one they don't have her calling him basically a dog (see note 2), which is racist in-universe and super extra double racist in a meta reading. Side note: IMO, there is never a single innocent reason for a telepath to ever get someone's name wrong if their powers are working. That last bit is a headcanon thing for me since it's never brought up IIRC, but c'mon, really? What other way is there to interpret it? "hehe let's do a bit where the Black actor playing a character from a 'savage' race gets called a dog sound, to show that this white woman could never respect him and she has more social standing so he can't do anything about it" is just such a profoundly racist fucking idea

Note 2: In order to confirm that they didn't do the racist thing in DS9, I saw a review of the overlap ep by a fandom guy who actually lamented the absence of the racist joke. Yeesh. (I'm not naming him here bc it was 10 years ago and a lot of happily oblivious complacent white guys learned a lot of things really quickly in the following couple of years after that. Yes it's still extremely late in terms of they should've fucking known better long before 2016, but…whatever. I believe he's gotten better but if I learn he hasn't I will come back and name him and also tell him to fuck off into the sun.)
