i went to gdq, wore a mask the entire time, and there's comments on the video where i wore a mask being like "why the heck are you wearing a mask that's cring" and i just want to scream
one of the most distressing parts of BEING THERE was how little masking was happening. I wear a full half-mask rebreather to protect everyone involved, which makes me not only look the weirdest, but hard to understand. And so many others were just... nothin'.
i was thinking a lot about this throughout the week, and how especially disappointing the lack of masking was considering that GDQ was relatively diligent about it throughout the pandemic, even after the majority of organizations, businesses, and events have completely abandoned any concern for public health. i was very glad to see at least a few runners masking, even while the rest of the event was a super-spread event in the making.
on another note, it was also disappointing to hear the PCF folks in their interviews consistently parroting ableist and classist "diet and exercise" talking points without any acknowledgement of the financial and social barriers or the complete lack of public health awareness and infrastructure that are hugely contributing to chronic illness and mortality. or, you know, maybe mentioning the immune system-destroying virus currently tearing through the population via aerosol transmission in crowded gatherings with poor ventilation and no masking. ¯\(ツ)/¯
Talking about weight has been a part of their rhetoric for a number of years, although I don't remember it being mentioned more than briefly, in the times I've watched (which would have last been in 2022). It's "good" to know that they are doubling down on that...
if only they had people on staff that were experienced in public health education and outreach

I didn't even know you were running a game this year and we happened to turn on the stream while you were and it was this tremendous breath of fresh air (so to speak)—very fun to see you and also so lovely that you were wearing a mask. I meant to try to look you up to say so but forgot until now. 
It's okay to forget things for a bit! I appreciate your words, and that you appreciate sticking with the mask, and that you still recognize me without my hair ;) GDQ isn't chosting so most of my social media interaction and hyping was on twitter. I'm trying to remember to do it here too because there's a big (queer) speedrunning component over here too.
