Rounding out today's news, the New York Times Tech Guild is asking for your support in demanding contract terms that protect the Guild's trans and gender-nonconforming workers. They have seven demands, which are:
- Healthcare with comprehensive coverage for gender affirming care
- Proactive transition plans for employees
- Trans-inclusive anti-discrimination workplace training
- Gender neutral bathrooms on every floor of every location
- Support for name changes and use of preferred names across all company systems
- Just cause, no exceptions
- A dedicated resource for trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming employees
According to the Guild, most of these demands have already been brought up as a part of contract negotiations but have been rejected with no alternative proposal. Hence, the need to pressure management. Their petition form can be found below the cut of this post.
The Times' lack of support for their trans workers is hardly surprising considering they've been a major driver for increasing hate against trans people nationwide, often by platforming known anti-trans bigots and writing smarmy hit pieces against trans people.
