i went with ame to a brass band show down here last month and when they started playing some louis armstrong my jaw dropped from the lushness and density of the harmony, like it does every time i hear a good brass band or big band in person
it is one of the rarest and most precious things in the history of all music that Louis Armstrong could be such a transformative, world-shifting genius -- in not one, but two, instruments. he remade what it was to sing or play trumpet for everybody. his stuff rules. big band rules. jazz is the best shit on the planet.
Finally, someone who sees Electroswing for what it is: the steampunk of music. And not the cool Miyazaki steampunk.
What I'm hearing is, once again, "We need higher standards for 1920s jazz & electroswing."
1920s jazz is always already good. having higher standards for electroswing is impossible, as any reasonable standard would require one to no longer make or listen to electroswing.
Okay clarification, higher standards for "1920s jazz revival" music (e.g. Postmodern Jukebox covers). I also firmly believe that there could exist a hybrid genre of Jazz/Swing Music and Electronic that results in something cool & quality, but nobody has done it successfully yet.

reminds me how I wish I could find some concrete references to how "generic 90s cartoon music" (the kind that tended to show up in othet media like video games when they needed to make it clear that something was supposed to be cartoony af) became a thing
a lot of cartoon music, from the 40s up to the 90s, can be generally categorized as "light music" -- a sort of 20th century orchestral pop music for theater, film, and animation. a lot of it was used as production music for aaaaages. my "in" to this was this meticulously documented Half Life: Full Life Consequences OST playlist, which i recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmzGIk0tHKU&list=PLQqEnrmIkOCS_XQstfymM0Kbw-rFLEEXx

Everyone's so focused on the electroswing but thank you for finally putting gabber in its place.
This is absolutely solid (also I would be the first to admit a fondness for fallout music but it's like the training wheels to the great depths of how good big band etc is)
i like that this is simultaneously perfectly comprehensible and also makes me feel like i might be having a stroke, excellent work.
