I liked it!
I recommend it if you want a quick jaunt of a story with cool action set-pieces. It still hits on-the-nose, but significant, race story beats but leaves some juice on the table. I don't feel strongly one way or another; it makes it more palpable for a wider audience and leads into the cool and gorgeous scenes that kept my attention. They also only had 6 episodes and crammed a good amount into it. It's also much funnier and sillier than I expected at first blush.
Most notable though: The soundtrack is excellent. I knew it was composed by Flying Lotus with the theme performed by Thundercat as Yasuke was introduction to both of them. My nephew gifted me the Yasuke OST and Thundercat's It Is What It Is vinyls a couple years back. I've listened to IIWII LP a number of times, I really loved it. I liked the Yasuke OST, but hearing it used in the show made me think, "oh this is what a modern Samurai Champloo could've sounded like."
I didn't skip the intro once. Partially because I was cooking but I didn't want to anyway (listening to it on repeat now).
Food for the next week or two and I'm actually watching shows that were in my backlog from forever ago! Let's go Chosters!
