It's Morphin Time!
Hello! This is a series to spotlight games with good music within it, but I seldom hear discussed. The games themselves aren't necessarily good, interesting, or released, but the jams are hot despite this.
The tag is #HotJamsOfGaming, if you wish to follow/mute!
My goal is for folks spend just a couple minutes listening to the music here and possibly following up with the rest of the OST. With current internet culture: If I have to keep someone for more than 5 minutes, I've lost them. Especially when it comes to making someone watch or listen to something. :-)
And what better way to start on the power that's insi(e-i-e-i-e-i-e-iiiiiiiiide) these games than two of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers games for the Super Nintendo. Yes, two of; I will not be adding The Fighting Edition here yet.
So without further ado, the power of the Power Rangers (above) and small thoughts blurb + links below.
The comparison of these two soundtracks is interesting. They carry a similar energy to one another but, for me, the original game has a consistent overall soundtrack, but The Movie has higher highs and lows. Still, there's nothing I even remotely dislike from either one. They're extraordinarily well done and bring the energy to the U.S.'s Sentai hype during the mid-90's. Remember BeetleBorgs? VR Troopers? Power Rangers are still going.
With the flow of the original and the dynamic energy of the second, I wanted to pop them both into one entry so folks compare for themselves.
Fun fact: In the theme song for the original game, it feels like they intentionally cut off the "s" when singing "Power Rangers." I honestly think that was intentional, considering the game is only single-player.
