I'm a Vietnamese cis woman born and currently living in the U.S. You may know me from Sandwich, from Twitter or Mastodon (same username), or on Twitch as Sharkaeopteryx. I do not have a Discord or Bluesky account.

Ask me about language learning/teaching, cooking/eating food, late diagnosis ADHD, and volunteer small business mentoring. Or don't, I'm not the boss of you.

I think people deserve to be young, make mistakes, and grow without being held to standards they don't know about yet and are still learning. So, if you are under 22, please don't try to strike up a friendship or get involved in discussions on my posts.

Please don't automatically assume I follow/know/co-sign someone just because I reposted something from them—sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Also, if you think being removed as a follower when we're not mutuals is a cardinal sin, please do not follow me.

the thing about me is that i don’t think “she breasted boobily” is bad writing. it’s only bad if you’re a coward who won’t commit. are you prepared to list “boobs” as one of the key plot elements in your story outline. are the boobs thematic. do they present an obstacle for the protagonist to overcome. the answer could be yes if you were willing to commit to your passions. the main character has to solve a murder or whatever? okay but how do the boobs play into it????? you dedicated whole paragraphs to making me think about how nice boobs are????????? are you simply Not going to develop that plotline further????????????

Thank you. Like, you've chosen a comedically "out there" example with which to illustrate the point, sure, but the difference between good and bad writing isn't "follows stylistic norms" vs "doesn't follow stylistic norms"; it's "is written with informed and committed intentionality behind its choices" vs "isn't written with informed and committed intentionality behind its choices". This is why James Joyce can be celebrated and is celebrated. This is why an idiosyncratic writing style might be poison to a work's consumerist "mass appeal", but is not bad writing.

I had a conversation about this recently with a friend, we concluded that you can get away with doing incredibly silly things in writing as long as you do it with an incredible amount of confidence. Like how am I supposed to get emotionally invested if an author isn't emotionally invested enough to commit to the bit?

if you're going to boob, breast as much as you can and then live on back through the mammaries you had, and the ones that will come hereafter... developing a fascinating world of narrative is for superpervs who can get really intricate in what excites their hearts!!! aaaaaaa
