I feel like this showcases the speed at which any games site relying on guides is going to be doomed
Specifically integrating "assistants" into Microsoft for the purpose of scraping guide sites and cannibalizing their traffic seems like it's the primary strategy here and like, the degree to which this is adversarial with what little remains of game sites at this point is.. Well....
If Square gets it in its head to do this with the next FF7 remake game (don't put it past them in this day and age...), I, for one, recommend that we flood its LLM material with nothing but the sentence, "Attack while it's tail's up," so that when people ask their omniscient AI pal how to beat the Guardian Scorpion they keep banging their head against, they'll be equipped to game like a pro.
Also, putting everything else that's wrong with this shit to the side, speaking as someone who obviously writes words for games for a living, you can tell they're in it purely for the gold rush and not because it actually makes sense for the bottom line like you think they'd most cynically care about because I'm pretty sure the cost of, I dunno, hiring a professional game writer to maybe write more bespoke help text and brush up existing descriptions if they're so concerned that the game is too big for its own britches would be a small, one-time cost upfront that would last in perpetuity rather than a recurring one many times over every single month to power a bunch of computer systems that'll produce less reliable """work""" at every turn that'll need constant tuning to no real avail.
But what do I know, I'm just a localizer who can't face facts and accept that my future is to proofread and edit machine translations for the rest of my life until I'm dead and buried. 🥴
