I'm a Vietnamese cis woman born and currently living in the U.S. You may know me from Sandwich, from Twitter or Mastodon (same username), or on Twitch as Sharkaeopteryx. I do not have a Discord or Bluesky account.

Ask me about language learning/teaching, cooking/eating food, late diagnosis ADHD, and volunteer small business mentoring. Or don't, I'm not the boss of you.

I think people deserve to be young, make mistakes, and grow without being held to standards they don't know about yet and are still learning. So, if you are under 22, please don't try to strike up a friendship or get involved in discussions on my posts.

Please don't automatically assume I follow/know/co-sign someone just because I reposted something from them—sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Also, if you think being removed as a follower when we're not mutuals is a cardinal sin, please do not follow me.

Wanted to make sure to share this here--in recent posts on Instagram, the BDS National Committee has made slight changes to the Consumer Boycott list, as well as firmly throwing its support behind one of the organic boycott targets.

Firstly, the consumer boycott list, the primary list of organized targets, has been updated. Previously, the list included:

  • HP
  • Siemens
  • AXA
  • Puma
  • Israeli fruits and vegetables (all produce labeled "Made in Israel")
  • SodaStream
  • AHAVA
  • Sabra

Recent additions to the list include:

  • Chevron, including subsidiaries Texaco and Caltex
  • RE/MAX
  • Carrefour

This is documented here: https://www.instagram.com/p/C1wAPeJMLVm/?hl=en

Secondly, in addition to an endorsement through the "organic boycotts" portion above, BDS has formally thrown its weight behind the McDonald's boycott as a result of the continued providing of free food to IDF by McDonald's Israel franchisees and a lack of action on the part of McDonald's Corp.

The ask here is for McDonald's to cut ties with its Israeli franchisee--until that happens, the BDS campaign is asking for a consumer boycott.

I want to note here as well that, while there is an ongoing organic action in some circles targeting Starbucks, the BDS Committee has not endorsed any sort of boycott or corporate pressure action against Starbucks at this time. SB Workers United, which was sued by Starbucks after expressing solidarity with Palestinians, has also not called for a boycott--though they have asked that consumers not purchase Starbucks gift cards in solidarity with the union.

Additionally, with regard to "Pressure targets", the BDS campaign has defined what that should look like on its website:

The BDS movement actively calls for pressure campaigns against these targets. This includes boycotts when reasonable alternatives exist, as well as lobbying, peaceful disruptions, and social media pressure.

While no consumer boycotts against players like Disney, Amazon, and Google are specifically called for, boycotting their products "when reasonable alternatives exist" is explicitly recommended by BDS.
