(in truth i saw this somewhere(probably a tumblr compilation or something))
I love the idea of Gods that have died, but only in the mortal sense. Gods that had a tangible influence, like a body of living flesh, which have been killed in a sense we understand, and yet continue to influence the world around us. It's a powerful literary device.
Imagine a god that goes through a metamorphosis upon the death of their body. A god that evolves from a singular - albeit amazingly powerful - force of nature, and suddenly or over time begins to be able to influence an entire world or series of worlds. Going from a world-ending threat to an omnipotent, universe-scale force.
Or a god that dies and whose power wanes but becomes a part of the natural order, like a world where there is no night suddenly getting a day-night cycle because they became the moon or something. Dead gods can be so fucking cool, and it can be either a minor bit of worldbuilding lore or the main concept of a story.
Because immortality is such an unfamiliar concept to mortal creatures, death doesn't mean the same thing. Death to an immortal can be something completely different. Death to the divinely immortal can be completely off-the-wall bonkers shit. A world ending catastrophe or a noble sacrifice that ends suffering. Dead Gods is such a cool concept to me, and I really want to start using them more in my writing.
