GRS Recovery has been an interesting experience in noticing what contributes to the recipes that make up the distinct smells people's houses have. Because people have been over for so long and often to take care of me/be here in case of emergency, or other people have done my laundry, etc. my apartment has been smelling like other people's homes. All of my clothes smell like the friend who did my laundry, which tells me that that friend's house smell is highly determined by their laundry sauce recipe. My living room smells like my sister's house (minus Cat Smell), which tells me her house smell is highly determined by the foods she eats and the shampoo and soap recipes she uses; but it especially smelled like her house after her spouse took some shifts being here, which tells me their house smell is definitely their combined smell, and not just one of their smells.
There's also still strong notes of Hospital Room Smell in my bedroom even though I've had laundry done (making my room smell like friend who did my laundry) and done lots of showering since my hospital stay. So that tells me that Hospital Room Smell 1. has probably stuck on my plushie that I brought to the hospital quite strongly and 2. the smell of my own surgical site's discharge is probably a major contributor to Hospital Room Smell 3. the smell of the various things like pads, checks, latex gloves, gauze etc. are probably also contributors.
I wonder what important ingredients are a part of the recipe of my apartment's normal smell that I don't usually notice that will come back when I no longer am under the collective care of my friends, chosen family, and community? When I'm not a fall risk and so forth?
