Yesterday, most of Portland, Oregon's remaining un-unionized employees changed that when they officially voted to unionize as the City of Portland Professional Workers Association (CPPW). The vote was 306-68 in favor of unionization, and the new union will cover almost 800 workers across bureaus including financial analysts, multimedia specialists, hearings officers, and others.

According to Willamette Week, the union began collecting signatures in January and submitted its petition to unionize in May. With its success, the union is now believed to be the second-largest independent union in the state. Its members say it's likely to remain independent in the future, and they hope to begin bargaining with the city at the end of summer or thereabouts.

Congratulations!
