Gut feeling answer: because they think deep down we’re only somewhat human Slightly more charitable answer: some people with deafness and people with blindness prefer person first language bc they don’t want to be defined by their disability and many people without much direct experience talking to autistic people as equals do not realize that with autism the community’s wishes are different here(or, hell, that there even is a community)
The Deaf community absolutely prefers to be called Deaf people and not "person with deafness" for what it's worth.

Think about the way we reference other conditions. Deaf person, blind person; person with cancer, person with alzheimer's. Person-first language subconsciously equates autism to a disease, which is how certain "activism" groups want neurotypicals to regard it so they can get away with being eugenicist assholes (see: 'curing' autism).

i'd sell tickets to the autistic experience. for $10k you can come sit silently in my house while i wfh in silence. if it gets too loud i'll turn the fan off. i might go change clothes if the fabric is bad that day but you have to pay an extra $20k to watch the decision making process. there will be intermission while i change, feel free to go to the white castle down the street. at some point i'll check all the social media i have and get bored. bring your own noise-cancelling headphones, they will not be provided. step right up.
