Do y’all remember “femme flagging” and then the subsequent discourse about if straight women were “appropriating femme flagging and making things confusing for femmes, destroying the usefulness of this crucial method of queer signaling for queer femmes”

In case you weren’t there, “femme flagging” was just having an accent nail. Someone on tumblr declared having an accent nail to be “femme flagging” and that different colored accent nails had different meanings (I don’t think they ever even wrote down what the colors meant just that “different colors mean different things”) and people got really excited about the idea of this being a thing without considering that straight women had already been using the ring finger as an accent nail for years and so this was never going to become an established method of queer signaling (also who was finding hookups via flagging in public anyway we already had apps like Grindr at this point tho this was before Lex)

Also leaving out that the best way to flag that you’re a lesbian through your nails definitely isn’t by the color of an accent nail but through having inconsistent nail lengths because, well, yeah you can figure that out yourself.
