Oh this is fun! I'm getting my hands on an easel come monday, so i'll be able to do plein air with more than just my tiny sketchbook soon. I'm also very curious about gouache but i haven't worked up my courage for it yet lol

if you want to ease into it i highly recommend just getting some white gouache, you can mix it into watercolour to make it opaque so you can layer lighter colours on top of darker ones

i was expecting it to really weaken the pigment of whatever watercolour you mix in but as long as you're sparing with the gouache it's almost the opposite effect, it makes colours really vivid and opaque. it doesn't work that great for shadows but you can just layer watercolours for those anyway
