Whatever else you can say about 2022, it's the year that a dude with a shitty Borderlands gun aced Shinzo Abe and in doing so maybe irreparably damaged both the Unification Church and the LDP and so had more concrete impact than any "peaceful protest" ever had in history.

Yamagami targeted Abe because of the church's ties to Japanese politics, they're up in the LDP in the same way The Family is all up in the upper levels of American politics. Moon was evidently going to be his original target.

I went into a hole reading wikipedia about Shinzo Abe and his grandpa, and I guess he had a lot of controversy over the people he appointed which were overwhelmingly moonies

his grandpa who founded the LDP in cooperation with the US government to suppress socialism, in order to escape consequences for the Extreme War Crimes he committed in Manchuria during his time in the Imperial Japanese army
