Being a librarian is great because while you do face kind of insane amounts of sexual harassment and violent threats you also just get this baseline aura of everyone loving you by default when you go out and about. I had a store let me use a Discover card even though they don't take Discover because I was buying supplies for the library and another store just gave me (well, the library) free stuff when I mentioned I was buying decorations for a library program. Also there are retired people who just throw money at you for supplies and stuff constantly

besides extremely weird politicians i think librarians seem to be universally appreciated by the general public just for the fact that you're doing such an important and selfless job. at least that's the perception i get as a not-librarian

To be a librarian you need a Master of Library and Information Science degree. But there's more of library workers who aren't librarians. Like library assistants, computer help desk people, guards, facilities maintenance, catalogue processing assistants, pages, after school program leaders, volunteers who run English conversation groups, people who maintain the IT infrastructure, PR and marketing managers, graphic designers, community outreach specialists, social workers, it goes on and on really. Librarians are just one kind of library worker. Sort of like how many people work in a hospital who are not doctors but still really really really important. You don't need to be an MD to work in a hospital and the nurses are very essential
