I hope we all make it

Without getting into spoilers, it's a lovely mix of heartfelt earnestness and cheesy fun. I may have cried a couple times, but I laughed much more. Below the fold you'll find a very minor spoiler, as part of a larger blathering about the show formats.

My only regret is that they spent precious ending episode screen time setting up plot hooks for a season two that we now know will never come. I want to stress that this isn't a huge cliffhanger, just a few loose ends that could have been tied up instead of setting up the next season. I definitely would have left in the scene right before the title stinger at the end though, that's great stuff.

To be clear, I absolutely loved this show. That said, when I learned halfway through the season that there wouldn't be a second series, my first thought was "Oh, good." Otherwise it probably would have ended up like Sabrina, meandering onward for multiple seasons until it finally sputtered to a halt. There is value in telling shorter stories! We just need to finally toss off the shackles of traditional television network show production so we can fully embrace a media landscape where stories are always as long as they need to be, no more and no less.
