My mom used to use a StarTAC in the late 90s and early 00s before the Razr came out. She had me set her new phones up in the car on the drive home from the telco store.

Did you know that the red section on the front of the phone is the battery? Also back then SIM cards were actual full-size cards. The StarTAC was the size that it was because it was one of the smallest sizes you could make a mobile phone at the time, because it still had to have a slot to hold the full-size SIM card, which it did under the red panel in the back.

Also back then phones stored messages and contacts on the SIM card itself. It was maybe 50 contacts and 20 messages, and I remember getting contact names truncated because they could only hold like 21 characters or something

the year is 1997. im driving my harlequin vw golf, taking Very Important calls on my harlequin motorola starTAC. have no idea what horrors await in the 21st century
