have discovered (in part thanks to a mastoverse user) that Discord doesn't make it as easy as a copy-paste here due to weird syntax but you can do this:
/ban user:1081004946872352958 delete_messages:Don't Delete Any
and that'll do the trick!
Yeah this does not work for me and I can't recommend even trying it because of why: it autocompleted the user ID number to my own and had I not realized, I might've banned myself from my own server.
It does that if you put a space before putting the ID in, you gotta copy the number with no spaces or anything
note that the delete_messages options are localized so if your Discord isn't in English you probably have to choose that one manually
Pasting the whole line rendered it as text, so I had to paste the ID into the message prompt
For some reason the first time I pasted it, it didn't work, but I recopied it from the text box and pasted again and it did? So try a couple times if it's stubborn, I guess.
same thing happened to me today, when handling it for another server I mod. just Discord UX melting, as usual, I guess
