PSA TO PEOPLE WHO DONT USE MUSIC STREAMING SERVICES OR WHOSE STREAMING SERVICES DONT NOTIFY YOU OF NEW RELEASES (THE GOOD NEWS KIND OF PSA)
yo so are you having an absolute nightmare of a time trying to keep up with the latest releases by your favorite artists? yeah me fucking too i have like 120 different artists i actively want updates on releases for and there is borderline no way to do with without paying some bullshit monthly fee, right?
yeah i have 2 things that will help you not suffer so much. first is muspy and second is RSS Bridge. this isnt fullproof but its enough to capture most import releases by the artists if follow in the net and possibly more for you if youre more patient than i am. SO.
muspy is what youre gonna use as the backup plan in case the second part doesnt work. muspy is as simple as signing up and adding or importing your artists from your audioscrobbler. you can find it right here.
anyway muspy will give you an rss feed that you can hook into your RSS reader. if you dont know what rss is, its basically a notification system that generates those notifications automatically based on the content of websites, and its nearly as old as the web itself. i personally use akregator on my computer and feeder on my phone but feel free to use whatever works for you.
its important to note that muspy uses musicbrainz which is a user contribution based system and that means if there arent many dedicated fans of the artist muspy wont work, so you should go contribute to musicbrainz if one of your fav artists doesnt get new releases added quickly there.
now for the tedious but most effective part. i want you to list out the artists that you MOST DESPERATELY want to get updates from, that you cant miss new releases from or youll fucking die. i have 24 of them personally. for those artists, i need you to find their bandcamp, soundcloud, or apple music, whichever one of them they post new releases on most frequently or whichever you would prefer. once youve got that, pick a host of rss bridge from here and for bandcamp, search "Bandcamp Bridge" and use the artist name that you see in the url for their bandcamp page, for apple music search "Apple Music" and for the artist id use the number at the end of the url for their apple music page, and for soundcloud search "Soundcloud Bridge" and for artist use their @. the instructions for getting the feed of each bridge are pretty simple, im sure you can figure it out, but feel free to comment if you need help with that.
once you generate the feed, just right click/long-tap on the button for the atom feed and copy the link, then add that to your rss reader. do this for all the artists you absolutely have to get updates from, and soon youll have an entire folder that in your feeder just called "Music" or something that you can check and see updates from every band you listed. voila!
