June 2023 Financial Update

hi folks! jae here, back with a new financial update.

you'll probably remember that the last financial update was fairly dire. this wasn't hyperbole; we were in an extremely tenuous position at the time.

fortunately, it turns out being honest about the issues you're facing is a good way to get help with those issues. since the last financial update, we've seen a huge bump in subscriber numbers, short-term revenue, and MRR. this has been huge for us! we are no longer in the position we were.

it's important to note, though, that it is not all from the financial update. while we got a big bump after that was published, it tapered off fairly quickly. our most sustainable growth has come from the large wave of new and returning users we gained from twitter's most recent Bad Decision. we're happy you're all here! thanks for using cohost.

i'd like to try and keep this installment short, so let's get on with it. if you need help on terms, check the past financial updates.

totally great sustainability idea

make fake currency (not crypto, just like tokens or whatever) that you can buy on cohost

this currency (lets call it eggbux) can only be spent on buying cohost subscriptions

5 USD = 44 billion eggbux

so now you too can buy a (subscription to a) social media platform for 44 billion!

a humble proposal to unite cohost behind one verb

friends. acquaintances. cohort. hear me out.

too long have we toiled under the weight of the elephant in the room- how do we refer to the posts we post to cohost dot org without having to say "post on cohost" in full?

some solutions have been offered - all divisive, even amongst the staff of this website. chost. copost. bug/rebug. simply, uselessly, "post".

allow me to offer a simple solution, though it may appear to be the path of chaos:

cohst

pronounced as "coast". if the "oh" spelling does too much violence to your eyes, it may also be spelled cōst. try saying it out loud.

example of usage:

person a:

hey did you see that great cohst about how to refer to posts on cohost?

person b:

yeah i recohsted it immediately.

my hope is that this will at least save people time when they have to say it verbally irl.

this cohst brought to you by my partner's brain shorting out every time she attempts to say "post on cohost"
